Inside Conservation Tips

The average person uses 70 gallons of water per day as shown in this chart.

The following is a list of ways you can save water inside your house
.

Showers

Reduce shower time to a 5 minute maximum and install a low-flow shower head

Kitchen

Wash your vegetables in a basin rather than under running water

Toilets

Flushing uses more water than anything indoors so flush only when necessary. Installing a water-conserving model will reduce the water used by 50%.

Sinks

Fill basin or open tap as needed. When shaving, fill the basin to save water. Don't let the water run while brushing teeth. Install a flow restrictor in the faucet.

Dishwashing

Scrape dishes off instead of rinsing. Use a water-conserving model dishwasher. When washing by hand, don't let the water run. Instead, fill the basin with the water you will need to do the job.

Washing Machines

Use the load selector to match the water level to the size of the load, or do only full loads.

Look for leaks

Find them by checking pipes, hoses and connections. Have leaks repaired quickly. An easy way to determine if you have any leaks is to read your water meter at night after all water use, then read the meter in the morning before any water use.
